Dr. Maria Dehghanfard, Principal
Dear Lairon College Preparatory Academy Community,
My name is Maria Dehghanfard and it continues to be an honor to introduce myself as the Principal of Lairon College Preparatory Academy. As a parent and educator, this is a significant responsibility and one that I am very excited to have. Our mission at Lairon College Preparatory Academy is to prepare our students for success in high school and beyond. We engage students as active participants in their own learning, with a variety of opportunities to explore different fields of study and career paths. As a STEAM focused school, Lairon CPA’s mission is to provide a 21at century education to every child. We value diversity, creativity, thinking outside the box, doing our best but having second chances, and being a conscientious citizen in our society. We believe in creating strong individual children who can work collaboratively and advocate for themselves. To this end, we will do “whatever it takes” to encourage every student to do their very best.
I began elementary school as an immigrant in the panhandle of Texas. I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I received a Bachelor’s degree in education. I received a Master’s degree from the University of San Francisco, and a Doctoral Degree in Education from the University of California, Berkeley. I have taught PreKindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school, as well as a College Level Teacher Education course. I have been an administrator for many years.
I began my career in the Franklin-McKinley School District four years ago. The first year, I served as a K-6 principal and then transitioned the school into Lairon College Preparatory Academy, with a 4-8th grade student population.
On a personal note, I am married and have two grown up girls, one who is married. I have a grandson, who is the joy of my life, even though we don’t see each other often except through social media. In my free time, I like to be active outdoors. I love hiking, walking, camping, road trips, and time with family and friends. I love to read, both for information and pleasure. I love sports, especially basketball, so I am very supportive of our young sportspeople at Lairon. I am Spanish bilingual, and take pride in being bicultural and bi-literate.
