Ever since I was in 3rd grade, this Melissa Barrett wanted to be an actress and a teacher. After performing for many years as an actress, I returned to school to realize my other, equally important dream of becoming a teacher. My teaching experience dates back to 2001 when I first substitute-taught in Middle School while working towards a Master's Degree in Education. Although much of my teaching occurred in Title I schools and Program Improvement districts, all my students benefit from my teaching experience that spans grade levels and socio-economic situations; I believe in the innate intelligence of students, not in the limitations of race and income. Therefore, my teaching style is based on standardization of instructional practices, fairness in discipline, and respect for all cultural points of view, and I enjoy working collaboratively with a dedicated team of educators.
